In order to achieve active participation in DopeDAO governance, it will be necessary for token holders to delegate their votes to representatives. Ethereum transaction costs can make it prohibitively expensive for small holders to participate in governance which requires onchain transactions. Currently, our vote quorum is 500 DOPE, or 6.25% participation. Due to the wide distribution of DOPE, where the top token holder has only ~2% of the vote, it will be important for the community to actively engage.

Why can't we just use snapshot?

Snapshot is an offchain voting solution. It is great for understanding sentiment of the DAO. However, snapshot outcomes are not enforceable onchain. It is necessary to have onchain governance in order to ultimately govern the use of the DAO treasury and other DAO governed components.

What is delegation?

Delegation delegates your vote to a representative who can vote on your behalf. It does not otherwise limit the functionality of your token. You are still the owner and can revoke your delegation at anytime.

Who should I delegate to?

You should delegate your vote to a community representative who 1) is aligned with your ideology and 2) is committed to actively representing you in governance proposals. Some representatives might chose to make simple commitments, i.e. always vote inline with the snapshot outcome, others might choose to exercise more discretion.
